VitaFerm® Concept•Aid® 5/S is now available with MOS.
Concept•Aid is a line of vitamin and mineral supplements for beef cattle formulated to promote effective, easy breeding when fed 60 days pre-calving through 60 days post-breeding. High concentrations of vitamin E and organic trace minerals, coupled with the Amaferm® advantage, support quick repair of the reproductive tract and provide more energy for reproductive success. Additionally, increased nutrient absorption and digestion leads to healthier and heavier calves giving you performance that pays.
MOS (Mannan Oligosaccharide) is a prebiotic that binds to attachment sites on certain pathogens like E.coli, Salmonella and Clostridium and prevents bacteria from docking on the animal’s gut lining. MOS is a fractured cell wall of yeast that travels through the GI tract and attaches to the pathogens to remove them from the gut and reduces the likelihood that disease will be introduced into the animal.
According to Alan Lee, Southern National Sales Director for BioZyme, many larger cow-calf producers had previously been adding MOS to Concept•Aid in a custom mix, as it works as an “insurance policy” to alleviate scours in newborn calves while helping keep the herd healthy. When combined with Amaferm, it creates a synergy that increases digestibility and keeps cattle healthier.
“Amaferm creates an environment for the good bacteria to thrive in the rumen, therefore increasing digestibility and nutrient absorption. MOS is a binding agent that helps clean out the digestive system of bad bacteria; both functions that keep cattle healthy,” Lee said.
“MOS is an important part of managing calf scours for multiple organisms, but it is not a cure-all,” said Kevin Glaubius, Director of Nutrition & Technical Sales for BioZyme. “It will cling to and help excrete pathogens like Clostridium, Salmonella and E.coli, but the potential risk for scours still exists.”
Glaubius and Lee agree that MOS is an important prebiotic to add to your supplement program in times of stress, like calving and weaning, and said MOS is also helpful in areas where animals are kept in confinement.
Amaferm and MOS work in concert to help your calves stay healthy and gaining. Helping you increase your profits.
